Euro 2008 Final prediction

My semifinals predictions fared a lot better than my quarterfinals predictions. The most important part was that Spain made it to the championship game, making my prediction of them being the Euro 2008 winners that much closer to being a reality. They have a tough task ahead of them, having to take down Germany.

Spain vs. Germany
It’s all come down to this. Two teams will now do battle for the privilege of being called the champions of Europe. Spain will go into this one missing one their main players, David Villa. I’m fully confident that Cesc Fabregas can pull out a decent performance, he probably won’t be able to replace David Villa, but the drop in skill won’t be much. Germany’s biggest advantage is its height; they pretty much tower over the Spanish. So look for them to try and work the aerial game whenever possible. Of course, the Germans also have Jens Lehmann in goal, who is completely capable of costing them the game. There’s a reason why Arsenal didn’t give him much playing time, and why he’s headed back to the Bundesliga. The Spanish should be able to control the midfield with all of the talent that they have in that area of the field, and Fernando Torres shouldn’t have a problem getting some service. They’ll be keen on exploiting the two central defenders who have shown some weaknesses. In the end Spain will be lifting the Euro 2008 trophy, exorcising the ghosts of past failures.
