Serie A is a joke
Inter Milan secured its third straight title on Sunday with a win over Parma, but the victory came under some suspicious circumstances. The week of the match Parma decided to let go of their coach, which is an odd thing to do considering the team was fighting off relegation. There was no reason for the Parma coach to be fired so close to one of the biggest games in the club’s history. This virtually assured Inter Milan the win they needed to get the title, and Parma’s fate to Serie B was sealed.
So why am I so sure something dubious is at work here? It’s because the league is always talked about in a wink wink and nudge nudge fashion. Plus all of this is coming two years after the massive match fixing scandal of 2006.
I’d really like to enjoy the skill and technique displayed in Serie A, but I simply can’t bring myself to it. I don’t understand how Italian fans can continue to watch a league that undertakes such questionable actions. The fun of watching is ruined when the game has already been determined.
